Conference Update – Downlink Issue 6
All SATELLITE 2017 Finance Forum events take place on Monday, March 6, 2017 in room 207. The Finance Forum will open with remarks from special guest keynote speaker Wells Fargo Equity Research Vice President Andrew Spinola, followed by a welcome address from NSR President Chris Baugh at 9:45 a.m. Mr. Spinola has 20 years of experience in the finance community and is the chief space industry and satellite services financial analyst for Wells Fargo. Prior to joining the firm in 2008, he worked for four years at Needham & Company as an Associate Analyst covering Applied technologies and Telecom Services.
Giles Thorne, Equity Research Analyst and Telecom industry specialist for Jeffries Group will join Intelsat Senior Vice President of Strategy and Asset Management Bruno Fromont for a session “Comparing the Financials- What Does the Data Say?” at 10:10 a.m. The session will answer questions such as: How does backlog evolve in an era where growth does not come from video? Do top-line data revenues grow despite plunging prices? To what extent can lower CAPEX offset lower capacity leasing prices? And more…
NSR’s Claude Rousseau will then lead an Emerging Space investment roundtable with In-Q-Tel’s Ryan Lewis and Chris Quilty of Quilty Analytics at 11:10 a.m. Claude and company will cover the direction of future investments on everything from the small satellite paradigm change to Earth Observation big data analytics.
Summit Ridge Group Founder and President J. Armand Musey and SSL Senior Vice President of Business Development Rich Currier will speak during the 1:45 p.m. session “Impact of Technology Changes on the Satellite Investment Case, ” which focuses on the issues satellite players will be facing over the horizon including debt management, margin/revenue expectations, fleet re-balancing and growth strategies.
The 2:45 p.m. Finance Forum session will put NSR Analyst Carolyn Belle together with Space Angels Network CEO Chad Anderson and Spaceflight Industries CEO Jason Andrews for a forum on small satellite investments. The session will address the ins and outs of small sat business models, ultimately exploring whether such ventures can generate large returns or will be constrained to revenues that reflect the size of the satellites themselves.
The Finance Forum will conclude with the highly anticipated SATELLITE Pricing Roundtable at 3:30 p.m., hosted by Chris Baugh and NSR Analyst Blaine Curcio and featuring P.J. Beylier from Speedcast, ABS’ Tom Choi and other satellite industry executives to be announced. The session aims to pry open the industry’s most closely-guarded secret just a little bit more, and shed light on the most fundamental financial metric of any industry, much less one in a period of dramatic transition.
